FAQ
What are common skin problems?
Skin problems can be caused by anything that clogs pores, stimulates oil gland activity, and promotes the buildup of dead skin cells. For some people, this appears as whiteheads and/or blackheads; others can also get small blemishes. Severe acne is characterized by deep pimples (or cysts) that require the care of a dermatologist to prevent scarring and pain.
Skin problems can occur at any time owing to a host of reasons: heat, humidity, nervous tension, not to mention physical stresses due to poor diet, pregnancy, menstruation, illness, or even certain medications, including aspirin type products.
As a result, no one is really born with one skin “type.” Your skin can be predisposed to being normal, oily, or dry, yet it can change from day to day, season to season, and year to year in response to each new situation.
Can SNAP help with oily skin?
Your skin contains approximately 3,000 oil glands per square inch, each working tirelessly to maintain a protective mantle of natural skin oils called sebum. Shininess is a sign of oil activity.
Even normal or dry skin can experience the occasional problem when these glands get over-productive. Oily skin, however, is most prone to breakouts. Oily skin is also slower to shed dead cells, which block pores. Blocked pores become breeding grounds for skin bacteria, and this can cause flare-ups. Some people experience breakouts only in the oil-prone “T-zone,” which includes forehead, nose and chin.
SNAP exfoliants can be beneficial for oily skin as they help remove dead skin cells and unclog blocked pores for a clean, clear complexion.
Why is exfoliation beneficial?
Exfoliation is an important first step in any skin care regimen. Snap exfoliants aid in removing unwanted dead skin cells that lead to the formation of blemishes and the appearance of dull skin.
SNAP exfoliants refine the texture of the skin, making it appear smoother, and stimulate cell renewal – helping the skin replace dead cells with new cells at a faster rate. This is an important point as one ages, since cell regeneration slows down after age 30.
Directions for use: Wet hands and work a small amount into a lather. Apply evenly over moistened skin and massage lightly. Rinse thoroughly. For best results, SNAP exfoliants should be used daily, or at least once or twice a week.
What are the benefits of using pumice?
Pumice is a natural, perfectly spherical exfoliant. Suspended in a low-sudsing, vegetable-based cleanser, these granules glide gently over skin, removing impurities. Other exfoliants, like ground almonds and apricots, have jagged edges that can damage skin. The addition of tea tree extract, nature’s antibacterial and antiseptic ingredient, is an excellent complement to SNAP’s cleansing pumice. SNAP does not contain alphahydroxy acids (AHAs). AHAs exfoliate by causing the top layer of skin to peel off. This is a harsh process and the long term effects have yet to be studied. In some people, these chemical peels cause sun sensitivity, which accelerates the aging of the skin. Pumice, as used in SNAP products, is the reliable choice for exfoliation.
